Enrolment for courses in other languages

The registration deadlines (1st registration phase and revision phase) are based on the university-wide registration phases and are announced on the PAUL homepage, on the ZfS website under News and on notice boards.

Languages with placement test/interview

In English, French, Spanish, Polish and Russian, students register for the placement test/interview in the 1st registration phase. Admission is granted manually after the end of the revision phase (shortened at the ZfS); as a rule, all interested students are allocated a place.
The beginners' courses in French and Spanish (French A1, Spanish A1) are an exception; logically, no placement test is required for these courses.

Courses without a placement test

In all courses/languages without a placement test, registrations are initially collected. If demand is too high, the decision is made by lot after the end of the first registration period - so it is NOT based on speed!
Subsequently, additional courses will be created if possible if demand is high.
In the revision phase, you can register for remaining places (and places in newly created courses); only in this phase will places be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• Students who fail to attend the first session without an excuse will lose their place.
• If you would like to have the course credited to one of your modules, you must register in PAUL via the corresponding module of your degree programme so that the grade/performance can be entered in PAUL later. You can find further information here.

The language courses are primarily aimed at all students enrolled at Paderborn University, but are also open to employees, second-year students and guest students, provided there are still places available after the registration process. Please pre-register by sending an e-mail to zfs@upb.de. You will be informed shortly before the start of the semester whether you can take part.
Guest students who only wish to attend language courses should wait for our confirmation before enrolling as a guest student at the university. The confirmation will be sent by email and must be presented as "proof of place" at the time of enrolment. You can find further information on guest students here.

Important:

• The German and English courses do not accept guest students.
• For employees, the ZfS organises its own courses in some languages (e.g. German, English, Spanish) via the internal further education and training department, which meet the special needs of this target group, see Language courses for employees.
