Acquisition of ECTS points/credits

ECTS

If you wish to acquire ECTS points in a language course at the language centre, you must fulfil certain conditions and perform certain tasks. When you register for the exam in PAUL, your teacher will enter the grade (or be/nb) there after the correction.

Certificate

If you require a certificate in paper form (e.g. for your application documents), please send an e-mail to Marion Quiel(marion.quiel@uni-paderborn.de) stating your name, your matriculation number, the semester in which you took the course and the exact course title (including the group).

For information on acquiring ECTS points in the German courses, please click here.

In all other languages, the allocation of ETCS points is based on the following criteria:

  • I am attending a course with 2 SWS.
  • I have missed a maximum of 3 sessions at the end of the semester*.
  • I pass the final course examination with at least 4.0.

Please note:

  • *Please note: The number of possible missed sessions may be reduced if the course comprises fewer than 15 sessions, e.g. due to public holidays. For block seminars with 30 US, 6 US may be missed.
  • I am taking a course with 4 SWS.
  • If the 4 SWS are spread over 2 sessions per week: I attend both sessions per week.
  • I have missed a maximum of 6 sessions at the end of the semester*.
  • I pass the final course examination with at least 4.0.

Please note:

  • Only 6 ECTS points can be earned in language courses with 4 SWS - no more and no less.
  • *Please note: The number of possible absences may be reduced if the course comprises fewer than 30 sessions, e.g. due to public holidays. For block seminars with 60 US, 12 US may be missed.
  • According to my study regulations, 4 ECTS points are recognised for courses with 2 SWS, so I can earn 1 additional point.
  • I do an additional assignment IN the course (essay, presentation...).
  • I work on the target language for 5 hours OUTSIDE the course, document this in a learning journal (download) and make an appointment for a final discussion in good time before the end of the lecture period.
Details on the procedure and the options (participation in language learning counselling or strategy workshop, etc.) can be found here.
  • I am taking a course with 2 (or 4) SWS.
  • I have missed a maximum of 3 (or 6) sessions at the end of the semester.
  • I pass the final course examination with at least 4.0.

You can receive a certificate of attendance (in paper form ) if you have regularly attended the course. It is not necessary to take the final exam for this, but you may not exceed the maximum number of missed appointments (see above). The exam/examination date also counts (i.e. if you do not take the exam, this counts as an absence). The certificate can be issued to you by Marion Quiel, stating your name, your matriculation number, the semester in which you took the course and the exact course name (including details of the group).

No ECTS points are awarded for mere participation: In this case, the fields "Grade", "ECTS" and "Proof of achievement by" on the certificate form will be cancelled.

However, participation in the examination is recommended in any case in order to receive feedback on your own level of competence.
