The majority of students and teachers are now familiar with tools based on artificial intelligence (AI). In order to train both target groups in the reflective use of AI applications in the context of language learning and teaching, a team of staff from the Centre for Language Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has created two "Moodle"-based "self-access" courses. They will be presented at the "lernPause" on Tuesday, 13 May, by Dr. Sigrid Richter, Alina Luisa Cerezo Alarcon and Lena Berglind.

In four modules, participants will gain an insight into how AI systems work through interactive videos and H5P-based “branching scenarios.” They will learn basic rules for using AI tools, including how to create prompts. They also have the opportunity to try out AI-supported applications in various skill areas such as vocabulary, pronunciation or writing, and reflect on their benefits.

The "lernPause" will take place in hybrid form in room H2.211 and via Zoom. From 12.45 pm there will be a small snack on site before the lecture begins at 1 pm. The event ends at 2 pm.

The idea for the project "KITSL – AI Competence for Language Learners and Teachers" was honoured with the Paderborn University Award for Innovation and Quality improvement in Teaching in 2023.
