The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Paderborn University is pleased to welcome Professor Dr.-Ing. Richard Ostwald as the new Head of the Chair of Structural and Materials Mechanics. Mr. Ostwald takes over the position of the former Chair of Engineering Mechanics and brings with him an extensive scientific career.
Mr. Ostwald studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund from 2004 to 2008 and received his doctorate with distinction at the Institute of Mechanics at TU Dortmund University in 2015. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a research assistant at the same institute until 2022.
His research took him to the renowned Stanford University (USA) in 2017, among other places. From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Ostwald took over the W3 professorship and the acting head of the Department of Engineering Mechanics/Structural Mechanics at the University of Bremen. From 2022 to 2023, he was a research assistant in the Department of Statics and Dynamics of Structures at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
