CREXDATA: Critical Action Planning over Extreme-Scale Data
Overview
Project vision
CREXDATA's vision is to develop a data platform for real-time critical situation management. This should also enable flexible action planning and agile decision making on data of extreme size and complexity. Within CREXDATA, algorithms, software architectures, and tools are being developed for networked predictive analytics and forecasting under uncertainty. Proactive decision making is supported through the developed framework. Highly accurate and transparent short- and long-term predictions will be deployed for various stakeholders based on advanced visual analytics and real-time visualizations. Off- and on-site augmented reality applications are expected to be particularly helpful.
CREXDATA in action
In cooperation with 14 European partners, we are working together on solutions for a secure future. Critical situations are simulated using three application scenarios as examples to test the CREXDATA system. The Chair of Product Development is coordinating the development of a demonstrator system for coping with extreme weather-related hazards. Among other things, rescue robots and services of the European Copernicus system are used.
Program: Horizont Europe - Data
Motivation
Critical situations arise in very different areas. In mechanical engineering, for example, maintenance is characterized by the need to resolve a plant standstill with a precise search for the cause and rapid initiation of measures. Disaster management is another prime example where people have to make decisions under uncertain conditions. Economic, social and environmental impacts are to be reduced or even avoided altogether. Emergencies on the high seas, fires and floods on land, or global health crises also require informed decisions. Such situations are characterized, among other things, by the fact that the effectiveness of decision alternatives cannot be completely foreseen. Data, which are increasingly available, should help. One challenge, however, is that they are often available in extreme forms - incomplete, heterogeneous, distributed and difficult to understand are just some of the attributes that apply here.
