Pader­born sci­ent­ist be­comes com­mit­tee mem­ber of in­ter­na­tion­al as­so­ci­ation for Elec­tric­al En­gin­eer­ing and Elec­tron­ics

Prof. Dr. Erdal Kayacan, scientist at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Paderborn University, has been elected to the administrative committee (AdCom) of the Computational Intelligence Society at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE is the world's largest technical association for engineers and scientists in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and computer science. It is dedicated to technological advancement, promotes knowledge exchange and develops technical standards. Prof. Kayacan, who was elected to the AdCom by the society’s over 8,000 global members, will begin his three-year term of office on 1 January 2026.

“This election is a profound honor, reflecting the groundbreaking innovations in artificial intelligence thriving at Paderborn University," Prof. Kayacan said. “I am thrilled to join forces with fellow AdCom leaders to propel computational intelligence forward, sparking transformative breakthroughs that empower industry, enrich academia, and uplift society as a whole.“

Prof. Kayacan has been working at Paderborn University since April 2023, teaching in the field of automatic control. His primary research interests and contributions lie within the areas of machine learning-enhanced control systems with applications in guidance, navigation, and automation of unmanned ground, aerial, and underwater vehicles. As an AdCom member, he will help steer the society's initiatives, including flagship conferences like the IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence, enforcing publication standards, and fostering collaborationsin on AI ethics and sustainability applications.
