Location: Lecture Hall L1

Lecture and discussion with psychologist (M.Sc.) Julia Bobe and psychologist Claudia Decker

Dealing with global sustainability issues can trigger strong emotional reactions - such as fear, frustration or hopelessness. A common but unhelpful way of dealing with these emotions is to avoid them, for example by blocking out information or postponing necessary action. Such reaction patterns can also be understood in the light of procrastination research: Although knowledge about sustainable behaviour is available, it is often not implemented.

The lecture will present approaches from psychology that can help to strengthen sustainable behaviour and at the same time promote personal development, e.g. in terms of the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) and self-regulation.

About the people

Julia Bobe is a psychologist (M.Sc.) and works as a research assistant in the field of educational psychology at Paderborn University. In her doctorate, she dealt with the emotional components of procrastination and advises students on this topic as a systemic counsellor at ProLernen.

Claudia Decker is a qualified psychologist specialising in health psychology. At the PLAZ - Professional School of Education, she works on cross-cutting topics such as stress management and health promotion in the school setting. In the interdisciplinary context of sustainability, she sees her contribution as teaching methods for stress management, self-reflection and emotion regulation and thus promoting the individual awareness-based perspective.
