English Writing Skills for Students of Natural Sciences (L.ZfS.04072)
This course has been designed to address the needs of students of Natural Sciences who would like to improve their English writing skills in their respective field of study. During the semester, students will learn how to prepare and write coherent texts using academic language. Throughout the course, we focus on the following:
- structuring texts
- using appropriate academic register
- avoiding common errors in writing
- writing scientific articles and abstracts
The course concludes with a written exam.
English for Students of Natural Sciences (L.ZfS.04070)
This course has been designed for students of Natural Sciences who would like to strengthen their oral, writing, reading and listening skills. For this purpose, we cover a range of current scientific topics relevant to students’ respective disciplines. Throughout the course, we focus on the following:
- describing processes
- talking about current scientific topics, research
- writing summaries
- reading scientific texts and summarising key information
Students are required to give a presentation and write a final exam, which covers listening, reading and writing skills.
English Oral Skills for Students of Natural Sciences (L.ZfS. 04071)
This course has been designed for students of Natural Sciences who would like to broaden their communicative skills for both their studies and future lives as professionals. The course allows for communication and interaction, so please come alert and ready for conversation. Throughout the course, we focus on the following:
- improving pronunciation
- varying intonation – pitch and stress/emphasis
- language of effective discussions
- creating and presenting scientific posters
Students participate in several speaking activities, including a final poster presentation.
