All employees with at least a B2 level of English who would like to be more confident and proficient in giving presentations in English.

Contents

Would you like to improve your fluency, pronunciation, presentation skills, and proficiency in speaking English? This course helps graduate students and postdocs prepare for conference presentations, seminars, thesis defenses, and other academic presentations. The course content will be tailored to the participants’ feedback at the start of the course and may include the following topics:

  • structuring presentations;

  • expanding presentation vocabulary;

  • correct pronunciation and word-level stress;

  • effective intonation;

  • avoiding common grammatical errors;

  • preparing for and handling post-presentation questions;

  • presenting results and highlighting research contributions.

Participants will be encouraged to give several practice presentations and will receive feedback from the course instructor and their peers.

Trainer

Dr. Pamela Heidi Douglas

Trainer?s background

Pamela Heidi Douglas is a lecturer at Paderborn University and a native English speaker. Originally from Canada, she has studied and taught English in countries across Europe, North America, and Africa. After completing her Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Heidi began teaching English courses at Paderborn University in 2018.

The seminar is designed as an attendance seminar. You will be informed of the room with your invitation.

To find out your language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), you can take the following online tests: British Council Placement Test or Cambridge General English Test.
