Welcome to the information pages of the SHK Auxiliary Labour Administration
You would like to employ student assistants (SHK) or be employed as SHK. Here you will find information about the application process and further information.
Who can become an SHK?
SHK are students who are employed to provide academic or artistic assistance and who do not yet have a professionally qualifying university degree (e.g. Bachelor's degree) in the subject area assigned to their work as an assistant.
Students must be enrolled at a German university for a degree programme leading to a first or further professional qualification. Temporary employment is permitted for a maximum of six years in total. Within the permitted fixed-term period, extensions of a fixed-term employment contract are also possible.
Employment contracts are generally concluded for one year at a time; shorter or longer periods may be agreed in justified cases.
What you can do to make our lives easier - General information on submitting an application
If possible, please print out documents double-sided, punch holes and, in the case of documents with more than one sheet, firmly attach all sheets together!
Please submit complete applications to the Human Resources Department at least four weeks before the start of the contract. Otherwise, timely processing cannot be guaranteed. If the application is received late, we may have to postpone the start of employment, which in the worst case can lead to an interruption of employment for the assistant. It is therefore essential that you adhere to the lead times.
The employment contract, which is countersigned by the university and (only!) then valid, will be sent to the assistant by email after processing. Therefore, please ensure that the email address provided is correct.
The State Office for Salaries and Benefits provides important information for student assistants in this information sheet.
