Old border crossings and new boundaries. Incitement to pop-cultural (further) discussions
The event series "KW in dialogue - an incitement to transdisciplinary discussion" invites different perspectives to challenge each other in academic dialogue and thus contribute to the further development of those research perspectives. It is organised by Dr. Julia Diederich and Dr. Anda-Lisa Harmening. The structure of the event is designed to provoke challenging transdisciplinary encounters that, in addition to concrete project discussions, also engage in dialogue about (self-)understanding as a cultural scientist. To this end, thematic clusters were formed on the basis of four research centres based at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in order to engage in in-depth debate and discussion. Registration is not necessary.
Karol G, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and so many other female superstars of pop music cultures allow us to learn a lot about the societies we live in from their figures, (moving) images, sounds and diverse performances as well as their media, political and economic contexts: When postmodernism became popmodernism, when strong female pop music stars empowered themselves, when cultural circles other than Anglo-American ones became fascinating for audiences, fans, potentially social and journalistic media and marketing, anything seemed possible, leapfrogging traditions and third spaces seemed almost obligatory. But how do such powerful female figures move between cultural identities and identitarian cultures or even socio-political needs? Even the colourful and often laboratory-like pop music cultures seem to have their limits. Or do they?
In the reciprocal impulses, the participants will engage in dialogue and in several short responses to some central points of the analysis of Latin American superstars of pop music cultures in order to then open up the setting with the audience. In this way, the multi-perspective and transdisciplinary collaboration cultivated at the "C:POP - Transdisciplinary Centre for Popular Music Cultures and Creative Economies" will be demonstrated and practised against a common cultural studies background of different academic cultures.
