Academic Writing in English II (C1/C2)

All employees who already have at least a B2/C1 level of English and would like to improve or perfect their academic writing skills.

Content

What are the most common culprits of ineffective or faulty sentences? Would you like to be more proficient at identifying and correcting these issues in your writing? 

This course assists graduate students and scholars from all academic disciplines in communicating clearly, concisely, and coherently. Through practical exercises and short writing tasks, you will apply concepts covered during the sessions and hone your detective and editing skills. Additionally, you will receive personalized coaching and feedback on your writing from a native English speaker. 

The course content will be tailored to the participants’ needs and may include the following topics: 

  • advanced tips for clear and concise writing

  • conveying ideas effectively to facilitate understanding

  • avoiding common grammatical and word usage errors

  • revising your writing

Note: This course builds upon topics and exercises covered in the Academic Writing in English I course; however, it is possible to enrol in this course without having completed Part I.

Instructor

Dr. Pamela Heidi Douglas

Information about the lecturer

Pamela Heidi Douglas is a lecturer at Paderborn University and a native English speaker. Originally from Canada, she has studied and taught English in countries across Europe, North America, and Africa. After completing her Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Heidi began teaching English courses at Paderborn University in 2018. She also has over ten years of experience as a proofreader and editor of academic manuscripts and texts.

The more registrations we receive, the more securely we can organise the event. Of course, you can still register after the registration deadline if there are still places available.
