Content

Academic careers are risky business: as a doctoral candidate or a postdoc, you have wide-ranging decisions to make about how to develop your research and your career. This workshop revisits and extends your understanding of the conditions shaping academic careers in Germany and it helps you prepare your next steps.

Aspects covered include:

  • Permanent positions in academia: what they are and how to work towards them
  • The postdoc phase in Germany: relevant positions, and their pros and cons
  • Necessary achievements (publications, third-party funding and others): how to assess your situation
  • How to develop your scientific profile and academic independence
  • Particular challenges for international researchers and scientists

In addition, there is room for your individual questions.

TrainerDr. Matthias Zach
Trainers backgroundDr. Matthias Zach counsels researchers and scientists on all relevant aspects of their career. Trained in philosophy and literary studies in Tübingen, Oxford and Paris, he has completed a binational PhD at the Sorbonne and the University of Tübingen. His previous work experience includes several posts as researcher and science manager in Britain, France and Germany.
Registration deadline

2 weeks before the start of the event.

On the day of the registration deadline we decide on the basis of the registrations whether an event can take place or not. Therefore, please register promptly if you are interested! The more registrations we receive, the more certain we can hold the event. Of course, you can still register after the registration deadline if there are still places available.
